COVID-19 (Coronavirus)


Due to the ongoing concerns surrounding the spread of COVID-19  (Coronavirus), on Sunday, 15th March, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared South Africa to be in a national state of disaster.


At Bestmed we realise the importance of balancing our responsibility to our brokers and members, and keeping our employees safe is of utmost importance to us.


In allowing us to make sure that we deliver this successfully, we have made the following interim arrangements:

  • Travel plans, member engagements and broker engagements are postponed until later in the year.
  • Face-to-face meetings are limited or replaced with telephonic or electronic meetings, where possible. We have taken extra precautions, including the avoidance of physical touch and meetings in crowded, public spaces.
  • The majority of Broker Consultants are working from home, with remote access to all the systems that they require daily to remain productive.
  • Our support will continue, and you will still be able to contact us telephonically or via e-mail.
  • The attached contact list can be used should you require assistance.


We realise that our members need our support especially during this period.  The Contact Centre’s operational hours have not changed, but we encourage Brokers to also consider making use of Bestmed’s app, the online member portal, or the live chat option on the website.  Brokers are also welcome to email


We want to remind you that Bestmed is here for you. Should any Bestmed member be positively diagnosed with COVID-19, they will be fully covered for diagnostic testing, consultations and treatment regardless of their option. Bestmed also covers hospitalisation at 100% Scheme tariff if members are tested positive for COVID-19. It is to be noted that pre-authorisation is required for hospitalisation.


Bestmed will refund any cash purchases for hand sanitizers from members’ available over-the-counter (OTC) benefits if purchased from a network pharmacy. The proof of purchase must be sent to to facilitate a refund.
